What a change a week can make sometimes. Up until Friday Portland Trail Blazers Hoodie , Arsene Wenger was being harshly criticized for not spending big on new players after -Arsenal's familiar injury crisis got off to an early start. Since then, Wenger has had to defend himself from allegations of overspending and panic-buying.

What happened is the Arsenal manager went out and finally landed coveted German center back Shkodran Mustafi, plus a handy striker in Lucas Perez, -essentially taking care of his team's most pressing needs. While Mustafi, formerly of Valencia, is a lauded international who won the 2014 World Cup and reached the Euro 2016 semifinal with his country, Perez is not so well known. Having never been capped for Spain, the 27-year-old, who has played for five clubs in three countries, did score 17 goals last season in La Liga for Deportivo La -Coruna.

Much of the panic-buying criticism of Wenger has been directed at his purchase of the latter. Perez had been -targeted by Everton, who were close to getting him before Arsenal swooped in with a surprise, and ultimately successful, bid. However, some Arsenal fans may have been wondering why Wenger chose to wait so long before getting Perez, who some believe is not good enough. While the Spanish striker is not a big name like Alvaro Morata or Gonzalo Higuain, whom Arsenal have been linked with in the past, Perez is still enough of a talented forward to be able to contribute substantially. At 17 million pounds ($22.3 million), Perez won't break the bank and would not be a -major gamble should he fail. In short, he is better than nothing, and should be able to take some pressure off Olivier Giroud, Arsenal's main and much--maligned French striker.

The criticism of Wenger is also -unfair in that while he should have been more proactive, he was right to not have bought Alexandre Lacazette from Olympique Lyon despite a strong -pursuit over the summer. Lacazette is good, but is certainly not worth 60 -million pounds, which Lyon were -demanding. He might have a better goal-scoring -record and pedigree than Perez, having actually -represented his country 10 times, but never at an international tournament, including the last -Euros. Wenger might be blasted as a cheapskate -reluctant to spend on big players, but he cannot be faulted this time.

With the purchases of Mustafi and Perez, Arsenal's major buys this summer transfer window have amounted to three, with Granit Xhaka having been bought in May. Wenger also bought 20-year-old English center back Rob Holding, who has started all three of Arsenal's games this season and played quite well. Factoring in Saturday's fantastic 3-1 win over Watford, which hopefully will be repeated a few more times, Arsenal may actually have a chance to fight for the title this season.

MOGADISHU, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The UN World Health Organization (WHO) Sunday said it had not recorded any case of polio disease in Somalia in the last three years, declaring the country polio free.

The WHO said the country recorded the last case of polio in 2014 in the central part of the country but has since then remained free of the paralyzing disease.

The UN health agency however warned Somalia remained vulnerable, calling for continued vaccination campaign.

The head of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean which covers Somalia Dr. Mohamed Fiqi said in Mogadishu that massive vaccination campaigns and commitment from government and international actors had ensured the polio virus did not recur in the Horn of Africa country.

"Today we celebrate a major milestone, however we must remember our work is not yet finished. As the world edges closer to eradicating polio, keeping alert in countries that have high risk of polio importation like Somalia is more of priority than ever," Fiqi said.

"As we move forward, the polio programme in Somalia needs to continue to work to maintain and improve the level of population immunity against polio through target vaccination campaign and strengthening of the routine immunization services and infrastructure," Fiqi added.

The declaration by WHO keeps Somalia outside the last group of countries which still record cases of polio in the world.

Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan are the remaining countries where polio is still being recorded. The WHO chief warned Somalia remains at risk of importation of the virus from these countries.

Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo praised efforts to rid his country of the polio disease which he noted had subjected many children into suffering.

"No cases were found for the past three years and no child was affected by this disease. Many of our children have suffered from polio for many years.

"To eradicate polio was a big success and it was collective effort and commitment by many young men and women who sacrificed their lives," President Farmaajo observed.

The three year polio-free celebration comes amidst the worst outbreak of measles the country has seen in years.

Somalia is also still responding to an outbreak of acute watery diarrhoeacholera, which began in January 2017. Polio systems and networks are being used in both interventions.

"Polio infrastructure has been critical in responding to these other serious outbreaks," said Fikri.
